I love to sew for dolls. Really, I do.

Even more so, I enjoy designing clothes that are hard to find in stores.

What do I mean?

Most doll enthusiasts like to have basic wardrobe essentials for their doll. Popular items like dresses and pants outfits are easy to find and purchase. But, it is more challenging to shop for other doll fashions like undergarments, bathing suits, and coats.

You can buy hand made doll clothes customized to fit different shapes and sizes. Or, you can sew them yourself! It is frustrating to feel at the mercy of someone else to sew exactly what you want. Learning how to sew your own doll clothes will provide a sense of relief. After all, you will be able to design anything you want to fit any size doll you have.

PLUS, hand made doll clothes can be given as special gifts ...

AND, they can be sold for profit!

There are many dolls available today to choose from. My favorites to sew for include Corolle 13-inch Les Cheries and 12-inch baby dolls. These dolls are beautiful, and they have a lovely vanilla scent. You can never have too many baby doll rompers or diapers. It is so much fun to have an excuse to shop for new fabrics!

Of course, there are more popular dolls to sew for like Barbie and Ken. I grew up in the 70’s faithfully adoring my Barbie and Ken dolls. I have been sewing for them for a long time, even before I was old enough to use an actual sewing machine. Learning to sew some basic clothing items by hand was a great experience for me. You don’t have to have a fancy, expensive sewing machine to create fashions for dolls.

For reference, keep an organized collection of doll patterns. As you continue to sew, it will prove useful to have basic patterns for dresses, shirts, pants, and shoes. Even if they appear outdated, the size will pose as a base to start with and alter. Besides, it is fun just to look back and giggle at retro clothing styles ...
